GOOGLE SEARCH FORT WORTH
It takes more than a great brand and well-designed website to win in the online space. The old saying "If you build it they will come" does not apply to websites.
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the crucial key to get traffic to your site. But without a highly engaging website, that traffic you will get with SEO will quickly hit the back button and look at the next result.
The fact is that it takes many components to make a great website that makes money for you. It takes effective SEO on your website to drive traffic - combined with a dynamic online brand experience to keep them engaged.
SO WHAT IS SEO?
The simple answer is that some websites better "communicate" with Google than others, and as a result, they get a higher ranking on the Google's "Search Engine Results Page(s)" (also known as "SERPs"). Most people think the results are 100% organic - meaning they believe that when they do a search, the results they see are the most relevent matches to their search. This is not the case. And where you rank on the Google results page makes all the difference in the world. As you can see from the following chart, the number one search result enjoys three times as much traffic as the number two spot.
Note: The only exception is if the number one result has great SEO - but a mediocre or horrible website, and in that case the consumer will hit the back button and go down to the next result. But who do you want getting all this traffic - you or your competitors? Those business owners who understand the value of search rankings are the ones who will always beat out their competitors. And the ONLY way to get that is by having the right person who can achieve that for you.
CAN YOU SEARCH THE ENTIRE INTERNET?
Not really. When you do a search, most people think you are searching the entire Internet. What has really happened is you searched the Google Servers. Note: Same is true for a Yahoo Search or a Bing Search - you are only searching their servers. That is why if you switch between different servers, you will often get similar, but DIFFERENT results. Here's how it works. Google scans the Internet (they call it "crawling") with what they call "robots" and "spiders" and "indexes" websites across the web. It's called "Indexing" because every single website homepage is an index.html, index.php, or index.htm file.
After Google collects all the data for all of these websites, it copies them to the Google Servers. They have software programs called "Algorithms" that actually sort all the information from all of these websites to deliver relevent search results.
So when you do a Google Search, you are actually searching the Google Servers and the results that appear are based on what Google "thinks" is most relevent. SEO is all about understanding and knowing "how" the algorithms sort information, and optimizing your website to best communicate with those algorithms to get better positioning on the results pages.
WHY ARE WE FOCUSED ON GOOGLE?
When Bret Stout started in SEO back in the early 2000s, the big search engine was Yahoo Search, followed by MSN Search (Microsoft Network), and Google was relatively brand new and unproven. That has all changed.
It was all about the "consumer experience. Yahoo made a fatal mistake - we would discover it was "secretly" created as a paid advertising model, not really a search engine. When consumers found out that those businesses who advertised automatically got the higher rankings in Yahoo SERPs, they gave Google a try. MSN Search also saw usage rates dramatically drop and rebranded itself "Bing". But with Google, with it's more consistent and ongoing algorithm changes that dramatically improved search results year after year, the term "Google It" became a household term.
SO WHAT IS GOOGLE'S MARKET SHARE?
As of August 2016, Google owns 79.88% of the market share, Bing has 9.9%, Yahoo has 8.34%. Others not even worth mentioning but to give you perspective is AOL at 0.84%. But it is important to note that the usage rates fluctuate from month to month - for example, Google had 85.82% of the market share in the previous month (July 2016), Yahoo at 6.58%, Bing at 6.39%, and AOL at 0.46%.
And when it comes to MOBILE share of search, Google owns 94.53% of market share, Yahoo at 4.07%, and Bing at 1.01%. In summary, and for obvious reasons, we will only stay focused on SEO for Google Search.
GOOGLE'S ALGORITHMS
So what are Google "Algorithms"? Okay, when you do a Google Search, you expect the most relevant result that best matches your search, not unrelated results. That's where Google Algorithms come into play. Algorithms are like software or computer programs that are applied to the Google Servers that sort the indexed websites to give you back exactly what you were looking for. Remember years ago when you would do a search and the results were completely unrelated. It was very frustrating because you would get links to crappy portal sites or completely unrelated results.
Google Algorithms fixed all that. For a typical search (query), there are thousands, if not millions of webpages with helpful information. Algorithms are the computer processes and formulas that take your questions and turn them into answers. Today Google’s algorithms rely on more than 200 unique signals or “clues” that make it possible to guess what you might really be looking for. These signals include things like the terms on websites, the freshness of content, and where you are searching from regionally. It is because of Google's algorithms that you can now do a search and get links that are specific to your exact search.
There are many components to the search process and the Google results page, and Google is constantly updating their technologies and systems to deliver better results. Many of these changes involve exciting new innovations, such as the Knowledge Graph or Google Instant. There are also other important factors that Google constantly tunes and refines. PANDAS AND PENGUINS
A typical algorithmic update begins as an idea from one of their many engineers about how to improve search. Google takes a data-driven approach and all proposed algorithm changes undergo extensive quality evaluation before release. Google engineers typically start by running a series of experiments, tweaking small variables and getting feedback from colleagues until they are satisfied and ready to release the experiment to a larger audience. These updates come in all sizes of complexities and impact and must be continually followed to stay current on Google's algorithm processes. When Google makes a major algorithm change, there is literally a shift of billions of dollars from one group of companies and businesses to a different group.
DO BIG NATIONAL BRANDS HAVE SEO?
Now most people think that the big brands are the only ones who have great SEO hard coding, but the truth is most big brands don't have great SEO. Why, because of "brand recognition". If you wanted to go to the Coca-Cola website, you wouldn't type "soft drink in a red can" in a Google Search. You don't. You wouldn't. You know the name so you type in "Coke".
Let's take Best Buy for example. If you want to look at consumer electronic products on the Best Buy website, you would simply type in "Best Buy" in a Google Search.
But some big brands will optimize for search for specific competitive key phrases, like "Where can I buy an HP Pavilion Laptop?" See for yourself: Open a browser window and do the Google Search. What you see is Best Buy at the top with competitors Walmart, Staples, and Sam's Club (along with online stores like Ebay and Amazon). Note: You did not see any of these results because they were the most relevant - you saw these results because of how well their websites are SEO'd for specific key phrases. And to successfully get to the top of search, the key phrase coding must follow the rules of Google's Algorithms. These "rules" are very important. When you follow the rules of Google (aka "Whitehat"), you do very well in search. But if you violate the rules (aka "Blackhat"), or the company you hired to do SEO broke the rules, your website will be severely penalized or literally 'blacklisted' from the Google Servers. Bret Stout GUARANTEES only Whitehat SEO.
WHY BUSINESSES LIKE YOURS MUST HAVE SEO
The reality is that every single small to mid-sized business must have SEO because consumers use Google Search to find you (or your competitors) using key phrases. You have to understand that the customers you want or need to have don't even know your name. So how do we fix that? The simple answer is solid SEO Strategy and Implementation. SEO Strategy is about having a crystal-clear understanding of WHO your target audience represents and HOW they search for you. What key phrases do they use to find a business within your specific category or vertical? WHO do you believe represents your biggest competitor? What key phrases are THEY using?. What is the estimated traffic of those specific key phrases? What is THEIR current online traffic? What do we need to do to beat out our competitors? That's SEO Strategy. Now SEO Implementation is hard coding your website and content development to align with your strategy. Sometimes SEO'ing a website can take longer to execute than the designing and building of a website.
You know what you need. You know what you want. Now is the time to rethink your brand - create a highly engaging, well-designed website, one that has the right brand strategy, content, and SEO hard coding to get to the very top of Google Search. A highly dynamic website that is mobile-optimized and ready for consumer engagement and conversion. Now is the time to get more traffic, sell more products, increase online sales (or) drive more traffic to your location, get people talking about your brand.
